Introduction:

Gary Price doesn't know that he is insane—totally unaware of the twelve year-old personality co-existing with his adult identity. Carlin has two sides to his sexuality, and one of them is a sadistic killer. Dr Jones carries within him the ghost of a dead school friend. Across Internet chatrooms and continents, Carlin stalks Gary Price, to prepare him for the doctor, who will make Gary pay dearly for a crime that is thirty years old.

A deranged school headmaster is intent on taking Gary back from the age of 42 to the age of 12. Because buried somewhere deep in Gary’s memory is a painful guilt from a childhood accident, in which his best friend was killed in an horrific school fire. And now the past is coming back – not so much to haunt Gary – as to make him pay. The enigmatic assassin known as Carlin – or GiftHorse on the Internet – will make sure of this. For Carlin it’s merely a job. For the Headmaster whom he serves – it’s a mission of vengeance.

FULL SYNOPSIS:

Gary Price had it all. Not glittering fame or tremendous wealth, not that kind of ‘all’. What he had was Jeanette, a loving attractive wife, along with a comfortable home, three picture-postcard children, and just enough plastic in his wallet to comfortably make the bills every month. His job was nothing fancy – just selling suits 9-6, but it paid for the plastic and the plastic paid the rent. Gary had something else too: an allergy to boredom. And the cure for that came every weekend when Gary took to the stage of some small beaten-up workingmen’s club, plugged in his guitar, stepped into Elvis’s slippers and sang love ballads and rock ‘n roll to a couple of hundred tired factory workers. For those two hours, Gary was a star…a legend in his own imagination. Ambition can fool you that way.

His ambition for fame and fortune triggers other greeds. Tracy was only a fling – a bit of extra-marital sustenance. But it wasn’t Tracy that cost Gary his marriage: it was hypocrisy. So when Jeanette takes up some extra-marital hobby of her own, Gary feels betrayed, robbed. He walks out of his comfortable home with way too much pride and far too little dignity. You can have it all and lose it all in thirty minutes!

But The Fates compensate for Gary’s loss. His band – Black & Blue – start to enjoy the sweet taste of success. A record deal. A showcase gig at Newcastle City Hall. And not least of all, a healthy royalty advance. The future suddenly starts to look a little brighter.

Until Gary’s former lover is shot dead during the all-important Newcastle concert. And this reasonless cold-blooded murder triggers a chain of events which have more to do with the past than the future.

There is a deranged school headmaster who is intent on taking Gary back from the age of 42 to the age of 12. Because buried somewhere deep in Gary’s memory is a painful guilt from a childhood accident, in which his best friend was killed in an horrific school fire. And now the past is coming back – not so much to haunt Gary – as to make him pay. The enigmatic assassin known as Carlin – or GiftHorse on the Internet – is paid to make sure of this. For Carlin it’s merely a job. For the Headmaster whom he serves – it’s a mission of vengeance.

And Gary has no idea that he is going to pay with his sanity for a thirty-year old ‘crime’.

All he knows, in fact, is that his life is coming apart – and with it, his mental stability, as mad, irrepressible memories of childhood rush back to claim the twelve year-old child that still lives in the depths of Gary Price’s guilt.

Never say ‘I’ve sunk as low as I can go’ . . . for there is always lower, much lower.
